About me
Many years ago in Sydney, Australia there was a little Greek boy called John (formerly Yiannis) who soon realised that Australia wasn't really that fond of spics, wogs, wops, dagos and big noses so he quickly shed himself of any Greek culture, bunked unbelievable amounts of school to be cool and started going to the beach more often. It worked out fairly okay but it didn't help his education that much. Meanwhile, all his Greek cousins (whom he had to visit for the obligatory Greek family socials) were 15 and 16 (when he was 8/9) and were mad on the Beatles. So, at these 'do's' they roped him and his sister into doing BVs (backing vocals) while they did their thing. A life loving the music of the Beatles, of spending stupid money on musical equipment, and far too many hours in a bedroom were born!
I went to Drummoyne Boys High which was such a violent mess that they closed it down. All I loved there was art and sport, the music education was soooooo crap. We had to do Gilbert and Sullivan in an all boys school! My escape was guitar and drugs (and I was pretty rubbish at that at the time - but loved the cool of being in a band). When I left school and finally realised how bad I was I woodshedded for a year and turned into a guitarist. Great! Time to form a real band - Outline! Outline was the marriage of our fledgling club band Casablanca (I know its a cr*p name but it was the 70s) and a power funk outfit called Skin Tight. Within a few short months we were on the circuit playing Earth Wind and Fire, Cars, 10cc and Gentle Giant tunes until we wrote our own tunes, won a couple of Battle of the Band competitions and thats when a publishing deal CBS came a knocking. I won't go into all the crap that happened along the way but we had a single in the charts, TV appearances and played to big audiences. We were released from CBS because I was a hot-headed idealist with no decent management to reign me in and wouldn't accept that they wanted us just to record singles. Still, the band then signed to Powderworks (Midnight Oil's label through RCA) and recorded our first album, 'Maybe it's a Game' and had a cult hit with 'The Cicada that ate Fivedock'. All good until.........everything went tits up.
After I recovered from the emotional and physical fallout (drugs and police), I came to London and tried it all again but hadn't counted on the effects of the psychological fallout (okay, I'm a sensitive soul). Eventually, after a few more valiant attempts, I gave up trying to be a musical success again but kept performing in covers bands part-time and got myself the dreaded day gig. But now, I want to help everyone else benefit from what I've learned and that all brings me to now!
In essence, I love music, art, people and guitars. I get a huge thrill out of writing a good song (by my standards) and I also get a huge buzz out of helping people clear the negative programming that has been reducing the quality of their lives and kept them from their dreams. I also believe that it is possible to totally have the life you want - you just have to know how, and believe you can have it!
