Insomnia
Insomnia is one of my common requests as a therapist and, to be entirely honest, I haven't cleared everybody of it. Having said that I have cleared many cases and found that practical strategies helped. Here are a number of practical solutions. If the condition persists, hypnotherapy and EFT can be effective drug-free solutions.
- Seriously cut down on your stimulants. Cut out coffee, tea and amphetamines until a normal sleep pattern becomes established.
- Get tired out naturally. Go to the gym for a good workout, run or whatever. Get the pushbike out. Have a steam or sauna but stay hydrated (drink plenty of water)
- Strive to establish a regular time of going to bed - whatever time it may be.
- Keep a pen and paper by your bed and write down ALL the things that are on your mind - things you want to remember to do etc. Once your unconscious mind knows you've nothing to remember it should let go.
- If you have constant chatter in your head visualise a large stereo system and see the volume being turned down. If the chatter is negative turn the voice into a cartoon voice or hammy Marilyn Monroe type voice - it soon loses its power. If it persists try just saying shhhhhhhhh! And if none of that works try yelling (in your mind) "SHUT THE F**K UP!" Works for some.
- Expect to sleep - avoid saying things such as 'I'm not a good sleeper' or 'I never sleep more than 5 hours (for example)'. The unconscious mind hears these as instructions.
- Ask yourself in a moment of quietness what is keeping you from sleeping. We usually know the answers.
- Do a few minutes of deep, diaphragmatic breathing. The ancient Chinese believe that regularly practising the art of Cultural Breathing will prolong life, boost energy and promote well-being. SLEEP....zzzzzzzz
