Performance Anxiety
There are many things we can do to deal with this, from getting the strategies (the mental and physical processes they go through before performing) from someone who never gets stagefright, to collapsing the negative emotion. We'll just look at the collapsing anchor method here, although there are many more techniques and I often use EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) as well with most of my clients.
Emotions are housed in the unconscious mind. They are sent as messages to tell us something. For example, something dangerous happens and we get scared and either run like Lindford or stand and fight. We do this because the fear created a fight or flight reaction inside us which increases certain chemical output to help us do whatever we choose. The choice we make is subject to our programming. The reason we feel it physically is so we don't forget the emotion and our reactions can become automatic. But we can change that response!
So, the unconscious mind sends us messages but its us that decide what the emotion means to us.
Two famous performers have identical symptoms. Sweaty plams, unsettled tummy, hot eyes, dry mouth and speeded up heart rate. One performer makes it mean excitement, the other fear. The second has stagefright. The first is ready to rock! Read more
